The Gist of It

Well, another one bites the dust. My favorite TV Listing Site, Gist will, according to its website, "cease operating its free and subscription ("Gist Gold") online television listing services...Gist will continue to develop and sell its Electronic Program Guide software to global television service providers." Can't anyone besides porn make content on the web work?

Not Music to My Ears

Apple's new music store got the idea right, but the pricing wrong. 99 cents a song is about 10 times too high. Downloading an album would cost MORE than buying the album on CD. How is that a deal? Apple got suckerpunched by the greedy bastards who run the music industry. Since there is no cost now to physically produce the CDs and jackets, plus distribute them to record stores, what exactly costs 99 cents a song?

Reality Bites

I like Survivor, Blind Date, The Bachelorette, etc. as much as the next Joe Millionare, but do we really need a whole channel devoted to reality TV?

Sinéad

(Note: it's hard to remember how to put that é symbol in!)
Sinéad O'Connor says she's quitting the music business. Which is a shame. Sure, she's out there. Ok, I haven't bought an album of hers in, oh, 13 years. But those first two albums are brilliant, and I vividly recall seeing her tear up that picture of the Pope and it was shocking, riveting, irreverent. In short, the spirit of rock n roll. I wish her well.

Hot Chicks

I'm not a fan of the Dixie Chicks, but they're brave.

Piling

My desk is a mess. There are always piles of paper everywhere. Thus, it is pretty natural, given what I do for a living, to think about how this translates to the digital world and how to replicate a similar experience, what Donald Norman calls a "pile cabinet." I'd been even thinking about doing my grad school thesis and project on it. Of course, the good people at Apple, headed up by Gitta Solomon have already done quite a bit of research (pdf) on the matter and even hold a patent on the idea. And now there's rumors it'll be included in Mac OS X 10.3.

Not-so-Good Friday

Is there a reason ANYONE is preaching at the Pentagon? Last time I checked, Church and State were supposed to be separated.

Sarcasm

I am shocked to hear the U.S. will be running Iraq's oil fields for a while.

For Sale

Nothing like having a For Sale sign on your house. Christ, it is a lot of work to get ready to sell your place. Hopefully it will pay off.

On a related note, we found a place to live in Pittsburgh in Forbes Terrace. So much going on these days!
